What fuels your story?
There are some questions that just need to be asked. Questions like, who or what defines your day?
We all have ways we navigate the day, ways we cope, and things we let influence our mood and behaviors. Some of you might give yourself pep talks before your feet hit the ground, or even throughout the day. Maybe your days are defined by how many positive or negative words are cast your way. Let's be real, it is easy to let emotions dictate our days. Often we let other people’s beliefs about us or our situations determine how we proceed throughout our day.
Every day we have a chance to add to or alter our story. Yes, You have a story! You are not given a script to read from. Rather, you get to participate in the writing. Today, during an unexpected chat, someone special shared their view on the importance of rewriting their story. He recounted a recent time when apathy and selfishness had a hold on his heart. He stated, "I was depressed, and the more I told myself I was depressed—the more I acted depressed." Just by casual observation you could see he was stuck. By his own admission, he had stopped caring about important things and people. But one day, a decision was made that began to fuel his story with a different truth. Change began the moment he decided to shift his mindset.
There it is! Mindsets matter. We get to decide how we live our life and how we walk and navigate all the moments. Yes, our thoughts, words, and beliefs fuel our story! When we choose life instead of death, our actions follow. When we choose gratitude instead of grumbling, our steps become lighter. When we decide to believe we are capable of discipline, we realize we aren't stuck or depressed. That is how we fuel our story!
One of my mentors loves to say, "Believing is seeing." So let me say that to you today. Determine to believe so your sight will follow. Choose to hold firmly to the light of God’s truth, and let Him shine light on your path. Decide today to take a hard look at your thoughts and convictions because they are the basis of the narrative. Don’t let another day happen. Determine to believe and see who God is and who He has created you to be. Believe and see He has the power to save, deliver, and heal. Believe and see He has good plans for you and for your story. Believe and see that your circumstances don't tell the whole story— your faith does.
Friend, today is a good day to rewrite some chapters. It is a day to remember and rehearse the good things God has done. It is the perfect moment to remember and rehearse the promises He gives for an abundant life of freedom. Let today be that day— the day you believe and see that perspective is powerful, mindsets matter, and faith fuels your story!
